Tattoo Artist - Assignment #4

Artist Refection:

For our fourth assignment in Graphic Design class we made a tattoo on our body. I think the strongest technical aspect of my work in this project was the warp tool. This tool made it able for me to create the illusion that the tattoo was wrapping around my arm. A technical aspect that could be improved on is my use of the dodge tool and burn tool. This needs to be improved because the lines I brightened and darkened could be improved.

Something that I found easy in this project was the warp tool. I found this easy because it allowed me to have the tattoo wrap around my arm. It was pretty easy to do this part of the project because the warp tool was an easy tool to use and all you had to do was drag it until the tattoo looked good. A harder aspect of my work was the burn and dodge tool. This is because I the darkening and brightening of the image was confusing and difficult to me at first. Another thing that confused me and I found difficult was the displace tool. This confused me because at first I messed up on the displacement map so the displace tool didn't work correctly.

I demonstrated the objective in this project. The objective of this project was to apply a tattoo to a black and white picture, and make it realistic. I think I demonstrated the objective in my artwork with the way my tattoo looks and how it wraps around my arm, like a real tattoo would. If I were to do this activity again I would use a different tattoo. The new tattoo I would use would be another animal, a lion or a tiger, something fierce like that.

  1. Nice job using the magic wand to get rid of the tattoo's background and the warp tool to create the illusion of the bird's wings wrapping around your arm. You should experiment with opacity and blending modes to tone down the tattoo. It is darker than need be.
